Why does my injury code end in A, D or S?
Injury codes need a 7th character. A is for active treatment (initial encounter), D is for routine care while healing (subsequent encounter), and S is for late effects (sequela). Use the encounter switch above to change it.
What does 'not billable' mean?
Some codes are headers that need more digits before you can submit them on a claim. Those results point you to the more specific codes underneath.
Why do some codes name the right or left side?
Laterality is built into many codes, so the side you document should match the code you pick. Search "right shoulder" or "left knee" to jump straight to the sided version.
For reference only. Always confirm codes against the current official ICD-10-CM code set and your payer's rules before submitting a claim. This tool is not medical or billing advice.
